terrace house in the centre of Florence,
where he kindly let us bunk =)

His parents are both professors at the
university just outside of town, the
entire house is adorned with antique
books on great playwrights such as
shakespeare and english, italian and
american literature such as H.G Wells
and Ernest Hemmingway.

His father cut this out of the roof
purposely in order to frame the
monument within the structure,
and where leonardo consequently
spent his days smoking maryjanes
on the rooftop during his college days.

Day Three and I actually have blood seeping through one of my socks from walking everywhere. Its been such a blur...don't normally go to events like these as i like to avoid pretentious crowds and general civil unrest and politics at the entrance to shows, but such negative thoughts won't get you anywhere.... ;)
All you need is black folder with papers and catalogues and pens, strategically arranged mess propped up against your hip, wear predominantly black tailored clothing (preferrably a tuxedo jacket), get yer laniards hangin out, probably one business card at most (just in case), optional black heels (so everyone hears you make an entrance and u can tower over security, psychologically obtaining power), don't forget to make sure you laugh hysterically when someone calls you, all this and topped off with a smile of discontent, and doors will open. fun times.
Nevertheless, met some awesome peeps from projektgalerie, Styleserver, JB Space
who hooked me up and were super friendly =) and to end the day at bungalow for an incredible degustation fare and all important drag queen afterparty.
think positive.

After my short class at college today, I found myself in the Sherman Gallery in Paddington where the iconic Chinese artist Ai Weiwei exhibited his work entitled Through. He had assembled the installation back in the Beijing studio with his team, but it was dismantled for freight to the tiny Sydney gallery - it must have taken forever using cranes and forklifts to reconstruct the design almost identical to what it was in China.

Ai Weiwei is more recently known as the architect who designed the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games. He suffered through exile in his background, during China's political and social tension and his artworks provoke this as well as becoming a major cultural influence in the country.

The piece consists of Tieli iron wood, tables, beams and pillars resurrected from the disembodied temples of the Qing dynasty 1644-1911.

The beams and pillar inserted at violent angles through the table surfaces suggest the collision of public and private realms in the wake of China's frenetic engagement with global capitalism. Buildings are torn down and lives dislocated to make way for an architectural vision predicted on economic imperatives.

Abe Duque rocked dtroit tech.. although i spent most of that evening swimming laps of agwa and vodka, i checked out Supermayer on the rooftop but really didn't feel the sound at all even tho i'm such a Kompakt fan. The room felt really sterile and everyone looked way too serious in the music and seemed like they'd forgotten how to party! i dunno maybe i was just too marinated, anyway its good to emerge out of my hole + be out with my close friends, isn't that what its all about?

I think i've watched about a dozen films this week. something comforting about borrowing and returning things, rather than just buying dvds at 12.99 at a franchise discount dvd store. i get out about 3 or 4 films each time. this particular film really stayed with me. Antonioni's first english film, a fascinating view on london mod in the sixties, and the way Antonioni shoots the beautiful yet simultaneously grotesque models in such a dominating way, like he wants to reveal the fake side of the fashion industry. What is real is what is not, meaning is determined by context. furthermore, the score was done by none other than the great Herbie Hancock. brilliant.

even one of the video store guys couldn't help but scribble a tiny personal recommendation. wonder how long thats been there.. i like finding things like that.

amazing how it has inspired other film makers such as De Palma and Coppola, and one of the shots in the film was later used for a Bowie album cover.
